"Physiotherapy is a science-based profession that takes a 'whole person' approach in the treatment of disease, injury or deformity.  This is achieved through physical methods such as manual therapy, acupuncture, electrotherapy and exercise.
The goal of physiotherapy intervention is to return patients back to their normal function, or as close to normal as is possible whilst reducing pain.

Daniel Thompson and I are clinical musculoskeletal specialists working both privately and within the NHS.  During initial consultations, patients are fully screened to ensure that treatment is both safe and appropriately tailored to meet their needs.

We work closely with many other health professionals, particularly within orthopaedics, and we can refer onwards where required.

We can also provide guidance on self-management of your diagnosis to help you achieve long-term health and independence and help prevent recurrence of the problem"

"I graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2000 and I have worked continuously within the NHS in both Greater Glasgow and Ayrshire & Arran since then.

I founded the clinic in 2003 and have worked with patients of all ages, presenting with a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions. I also have experience as a physiotherapist across all levels of Football Club (from Maryhill Juniors to Glasgow Rangers), as well working within rugby, ice skating and treating individual athletes from many other sports. I completed my MSc in Manual therapy in 2010 and I currently work as a clinical specialist (extended scope practitioner) within the orthopaedic department in NHS Ayrshire & Arran.  My personal motivation in my work lies in helping patients return to their normal routines as quickly as possible, in a safe manner."

"I graduated from the University of Lancaster in 2006 and have been working within NHS Ayrshire & Arran since then. In addition, I have worked in numerous different private settings including sports injury clinics, private practice and sports teams. This has enabled me to gain a large amount of experience of musculoskeletal conditions across a wide age range and involving a wide spectrum of rehabilitation goals.

I am currently working towards my MSc and have completed many post-graduate courses. I work as a pain management specialist physiotherapist, and have a special interest in maximising level of function in both new onset and chronic pain. I am passionate about sport, as is reflected in my BSc Sports Science degree. I feel that my NHS role and my background in sport complement one another in enabling me to maximise patients’ function at a higher level in order for a successful return back to sport."

TREATMENTS AVAILABLE

Manual Therapy

This describes all ‘hands on’ therapies such as mobilisation, manipulation or even massage. This can be useful in restoring joint motion to reduce pain - ultimately restoring function. As a clinical specialist team we have received extensive training on the application of manual therapy and carry out as treatments to an extremely high standard.

Advice

We will guide you on how and when to approach a full return to the sports or activities that you enjoy and / or are important to you (whether this be work, golf, or cleaning the house).  As keen sportsmen we have a great insight into how best to advise patients on their return to sport - ensuring that it’s safe and successful, with a reduced risk of further injury and an enhanced performance.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is traditional Chinese medicine, and has gained substantial evidence in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions over the years. Acupuncture involves inserting needles into specific points in the body, and has been shown to be effective in treating both acute and chronic conditions. Occasionally when patients are in acute pain and cannot tolerate ‘hands on’ treatments, or have a diagnosis which makes ‘hands on’ unsuitable, acupuncture can successfully alleviate pain.

Exercise Therapy

At every consultation we will provide you with exercises to help you self-manage your condition and to promote your well-being in the long-term. This is the cornerstone of any physiotherapy intervention.

Electrotherapy

We frequently use therapeutic ultrasound to reduce swelling and pain in acute injuries.
